Covid has certainly changed the way we handle birthday parties. It has been a year of drive by parties with guests staying safely in their cars. It has also been a year of cancelled plans and missed events.
My youngest had a big 5 birthday party right before COVID shut the country down last year. As we approached his birthday this year, a drive by event did not feel right and neither did a class party. So, I asked the expert. I asked my kiddo what he actually wanted! He thought about it for weeks and then proclaimed he wanted Chik Fil A nuggets, pizza, and a roblox cake with just his family.
I looked at him. Did you forget that mom cooks really good food? You don’t want mom to make something? He responded “nope, not even the cake, lets just party”.
This was so tough for me! But in the end, it was a great party and my kid got what he wanted and mom didn’t have to do much. I call it a win win.
I started by heading to my trusty friend Etsy where I bough this awesome Roblox fondant cake topper.
The store does lots of cake toppers. Go check her out if you are in the market for a fancy looking cake without the fancy cake price tag.
Then I pulled up Chik Fil A on my phone and put in a catering order for their nuggets, mac and cheese, and fruit salad.
Finally, I picked up a few pizza’s and some more bakery made desserts.
Was it the Pinterest worthy party I would typically throw? No. Was it exactly what my now 6 year old wanted. Yes!
Maybe that’s the one thing we can take away from this last year. We can slow down. We can have a Kids birthday party that is a full on “store bought” party. The theme wasn’t overdone. I didn’t spend hours of my life baking and icing a cake. I bought some of my kids favorite foods and I got to enjoy the party!
