I am not Jewish, but I am a lover of learning about other faiths and cultures. I am also a lover of food. I think food is the great equalizer. It brings people together, regardless of their background.
I did have the privilege of working at a Jewish school for several years where I was welcomed with open arms. I was also fed. A lot. I got to experience all the foods of their holidays, and boy were they delicious!
My favorite for sure though, was the Hamantaschen cookie! A cookie eaten during Purim. A celebratory holiday. Hamantaschen is a buttery cookie traditionally made with a poppy seed middle. My recipe below is tweaked a bit with a jammy, fruity filling. The Hamantaschen cookie is rolled out and then shaped into a triangle to represent Haman’s ( a bad guy) hat. You can learn more about the history of the Hamantaschen cookie and Purim here.
While I love to make these cookies around Purim, they are great at anytime. I love mine with a cup of Earl Grey Tea!Print
